The first thing Bear Grylls (Ultimate Survival, Discovery Channel) does after he is dropped off in some remote spot in the middle of no-where is “getting his bearings.”

This is exactly what I do when I arrive in a new city, like today in Split, Croatia. I want to know where I am, how the city is set up and what the surroundings look like. No better way to do this then to find a good vantage point!

Right next to my hotel in the center of the city, I noticed a small alleyway leading up a hill. After a few minutes walk, the road turned into a stairway.

With the temperature well above 30 degrees, climbing stairs isn’t exactly my favorite activity. Fortunately, it turned out to be well worth it. On the top of the hill I found a small bar with a patio and a great view! Exactly what I was looking for :).

After a refreshing drink, I took some pictures of the city:

This is the main boulevard in Split where you can find plenty bars and restaurants.

The harbour, must be a popular stop for cruise ships as there was another waiting in line.

Most building in Split seem to be pretty old, which gives the city a nice cozy feel to it.
