Cheap International Flights

Cheap International FlightsIt is not always easy to find cheap international flights these days, with many different carriers operating. You can save a lot of money by making sure you find the cheapest option! In almost all cases, the cheapest way to book a flight is by booking online. Travel agencies will always charge you a commission (they have to make money as well off course). In this article you can find everything you need to know to find the cheapest international flight!

You could check the websites of all the airlines that fly to your destination separately to find the cheapest flight, but this would be very time consuming. A quicker way is to go to one of the flight search website that are available:

www.orbits.com
www.expedia.com
www.kayak.com

When searching for your flight, keep these things in mind:

• If your travel dates are flexible, make sure you check different dates! This can make a big difference, sometimes up to 100%.

• If you are flying to a city that has multiple airports, take into account the cost and time needed to get to your final destination. For example, if you need to be downtown Sao Paulo, flying to Congonhas airport might save you taxi or bus fare and a lot of time as traffic in Sao Paulo can be horrible. Also take into account the rush hours! The same if true for a lot of big international cities like New York, Londen etc.

• If you want to book a round trip, you don`t necessarily have to book both flights with the same airline! It could be cheaper to book two single tickets with two different airlines.

• If there are no direct flights, the flight search engines will only show you options that involve one airline only or multiple airlines in the same network (Sky Team, Star Alliance etc). For example, if you fly from A to C with a stopover at B, your flight from A to B and B to C will be with an airline in the same network. Therefore, it might be worth checking how much it costs to book two different tickets, one from A to B and one from B to C. The disadvantage of this is that you will need to collect you luggage and check-in at B, so you want to make sure you have plenty of time between the two flights (at least 2 hours is recommended). And even then you risk losing your connecting flight if you are delayed.

• If the airline has a frequent flyer program, always sign up for this! It`s free and you will earn miles that you can use in the future to book flights for free.

• If you have a frequent flyer account, take into account the miles you will earn on your flight. Miles have value, make a rough estimate how much the miles are worth to you and take this into account. You might also want to consider your status, if you are close to reaching the next status level (which provides you with privileges in the future) the miles could be worth a lot to you.

It can be quite time consuming to find cheap international flights, specially when there are different routes available and if your dates are flexible. It is worth your time though. I've saved hundreds of $$$ by taking the time to search well and by being creative. One time I was looking for a return flight from Sao Paulo to Mexico City. I was about to book a flight for $1500, it was the cheapest I could find. Then I remembered that most flight search engines only show connections when the airlines have a code sharing agreement. I ended up booking two separate return tickets, one from Sao Paulo to Santiago de Chili and one from Santiago de Chili to Mexico City. I saved over $500!

have you, or anyone reading this blog, had any experience of a Company called Go America? They seem to have great deal for the 4- legged flight to the States, within & back to the UK from a different city that we want - cheaper than the airline's own website............
